Facelift Surgery, also known as Rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to lift and firm the skin, providing a fresh, youthful appearance. Dr. Shatkin and his team of skin care specialists believe in "Combination Rejuvenation" which essentially means correcting aging changes related to changes in the surface of the skin as well as laxity. These corrections often require pre- surgical treatment of the skin to achieve the maximal result and final outcome. Since our skin is affected by the sun’s radiation, stress, gravity, and other factors cause it to sag and fit more loosely, areas of the face and neck, in particular around the jaw line, are especially prone to the aging process. Though these changes are gradual, wrinkles and other signs of aging can make individuals “feel older” than they really are.
Dr. Shatkin has developed his S-Lift technique for facelifting. ("S" for Shatkin and Shortened recovery and incisions).
The S-Lift is a 2 layer lift, both on the skin and on the deeper muscle and fascia layer beneath the skin, made through a shortened “S” shaped incision hiding in the creases around the ear. This combination of external and internal lift technique allows for a quicker recovery due to the limited dissection or lifting of the skin from the lower layers, and use these deeper layers to anchor the lift, thus giving it stability for a longer lasting result.
Eyelid surgery also known as blepharoplasty, is a corrective procedure that can remove excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids, reduce dark circles or “bags” under the eyes, remove excess fat pockets and wrinkles, providing a more youthful appearance to the eyes. One of the first things noticed about a person is their eyes. During the aging process, wrinkles, lines, and puffiness contribute to a tired or aged appearance. The blepharoplasty surgery is often performed in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a face lift or rhinoplasty
Festoons or Malar Mounds are is a condition related to lymphatic swelling in the upper cheeks near the eyelids. Very often, festoons can be misdiagnosed as lower eyelid fat pads. There are several components to Festoons and correction will depend on the exact cause. If there is redundant skin and lower eyelid muscle, this can be improved with a technique which redrapes the skin over a tightened muscle. Very often however, Festoons or Malar Pads can be treated with a non-surgical laser resurfacing. Using aggressive CO2 laser resurfacing, the collagen and skin can tighten, and after healing, will result in a smoother, less puffy appearance. Dr. Shatkin sometimes uses a combination of surgical and non-surgical treatment to obtain optimal result. Treatment decisions will depend on the condition and is best determined at the time of the consultation. The typical recovery for deep laser treatments of Festoons is 10-14 days. Redness and puffiness may persist several weeks, however, women can usually apply cover up makeup after 7-10 days to hide redness.
As a person ages they begin to lose elasticity in their skin, and the muscle and fat begins to lose its tone. This results in an appearance of being old, tired, sad, or angry. The brow lift (or forehead lift) procedure is designed to restore a more vibrant, youthful look by repositioning a low or sagging brow, and tightening the skin that may be wrinkled or creased across the forehead.
Rhinoplasty is a procedure for reshaping of the nose related to cosmetic concerns or following injury.
Nose surgery can help with the following:
Create better balance for the face and nose proportions.
Reshape and sculpt to refine the appearance either to make smaller or in some cases to add to features.
Reduce a large or disproportioned hump on the nose.
Straighten a crooked nose or reduce a bulbous tip.
Recreate balance and restore after injury.
Trim or shape the tip of the nose when bulky or bulbous
Improve the airway with septal surgery during rhinoplasty.
For many years, the team at the Aesthetic Associates Centre have been performing a non-surgical rhinoplasty, also know as liquid rhinoplasty as a technique to make changes to the nose without surgery. Dr. Shatkin trains other health professionals through the Aesthetic Learning Academy in injectables to change nose and facial contours. By injecting small amounts of filler material, most often Juvederm or Restylane, they can transform the shape of the nose to create a balance and uniformity of the face.
The procedure takes only minutes to perform and can fill depressions, smooth out irregularities, change the appearance of a hump of fix the angle below the nose. Sometimes adding volume in select areas can actually make the nose look smaller!
CHIN & CHEEK ENHANCEMENT
High cheekbones and a strong jaw line have long had a history of allure. Along with the eyes, Dr. Shatkin believes that the cheekbones and jaw line form the most photogenic aspects of the face. Chin and cheek enhancement can be a great way to enhance a facial profile by improving the overall proportion and balance of the face. Much of the cheek contouring done at the Aesthetic Associates Centre is with injectable fillers. They are a simpler solution to adding volume to the face, particularly the cheek area.
Surgery of the ear, also known as otoplasty, is a procedure that Dr. Shatkin performs that helps reduce protrusion of the ear away from the head.
Otoplasty is not limited to children and may also be performed on adult patients. Patients have been pleased with the long-lasting improvements to their appearance offered by ear surgery.
