Here’s how the 4D Facelift ℠ works.

First Step: 2 Layer-Lift. This first part of the 4D Facelift ℠ addresses the outer skin and its deeper layer that includes the muscles and fascia. Tightening and repositioning underlying muscle structure and fascia removes surface skin and deep layer tension, creating a strong foundation for support. The skin is then re-draped and gently lifted to reduce sagging for a smoother contour.

Second Step: Volume. Since aging often results in loss of volume in the cheeks, temples, and other facial areas, the body’s fascia is used as a supportive framework and to restore volume, for a more youthful, plump appearance.

Third Step: Surface Treatment. Surface treatment targets skin imperfections, fine lines, and wrinkles, and is customized to each patient’s needs. For example, laser skin surfacing addresses pigmentation irregularities and sun damage, whereas radiofrequency/micro needling targets fine lines and coarse wrinkles by stimulating collagen production to produce firmer and smoother skin.

General Procedure

The standard procedure for a facelift commonly involves making small incisions just inside the hairline, following the contour in front of the ear, and continuing under the earlobe to the backside of the ear and to the lower scalp.

Tissue and fat deposits are separated, the skin is stretched and tightened, and any excess skin is removed.

If the neck line requires attention, an additional incision is made under the chin and the same procedure is again followed.

Fine stitches are used to close the incisions and to reduce any chance of scarring. Metal clips or staples may also be utilized at the hairline.

Depending on the patient’s individual goals and needs the facelift procedure varies quite a bit. Today, many different techniques exist with outcomes that are consistently reliable and durable.

A traditional facelift procedure usually involves the surgeon making an incision in your hairline starting at your temples, continuing down and around the front of your ears and ending behind your ears and may extend in your scalp.

An incision might be made under your chin to improve the appearance of your neck.

A limited-incision facelift “mini-lift” may also be an option for younger patients who have less laxity and aging changes. Dr. Shatkin uses his S-Lift technique for this type of patient needs.

Recovery

Immediately after surgery, the face is fitted with bandages in order to decrease the recovery time and to reduce swelling.

Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing and recovery process.

The stitches, clips or staples are normally removed within a week. Patients sometimes report some minor discomfort associated with surgery.

Any discomfort can be treated effectively with oral medication. While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given after the procedure.
